Train Show Clinics a Success

The meeting was called to order on October 1st at 1:03 PM by Club President Ron Miller.

The minutes for September were presented; a motion by Earl Blanchette and seconded by Wiley Starnes was made to accept them as read. The motion passed.

Betty presented the Treasurer’s Report for September and the Train Show. The report was accepted.

Old Business

Betty Neill read a letter received from the Mayborn Center Staff thanking the club for selecting the Center for the train show. The letter was signed by the entire staff!

Ed Neill recommended Mike Cleveland for plaudits for his work on the clinics which were well received.

Mike Ross said thanks to all those who presented clinics. He presented one and witnessed first-hand the enthusiasm. Thanks to Ed Underwood for supporting Mike’s clinic. Mike also noticed a bigger than usual crowd viewing the videos.

Christmas Party – No alternative suggestions were offered, so Ed Underwood made a motion to accept Dan Ladd’s recommended action to once again have the party in the Santa Fe Depot and catered as before. Wiley Starnes seconded. The motion passed.

Dan then read the Caterer’s offered choices. Ed Neill motioned to have the pork tenderloin. Mike Ross seconded and the motion carried. Please RSVP to Dan Ladd by the November business meeting. Last year there were ten no-shows which represent a loss to the club.

New Business

Mike Ross suggested eliminating Train Show Clinics on Sunday due to very low participation/attendance. It was suggested to leave this action for next year’s train show committee.

Everything on Track for Train Show

The meeting was called to order on September 5th at 1:05 PM by Club President Ron Miller.

The minutes for August were introduced. Bill Lancaster made motion to accept as presented and Mike Cleveland seconded. The minutes were accepted.

Betty Neill distributed the Treasurer’s Report. The club has sold all available tables for the Train Show. The report was accepted as read.

Old Business

Train Show Reports – Bill Lancaster reported that all appeared to be ready. Security for the show will run from 9 PM Friday through 9 AM Sunday. Members are asked to be diligent and watchful Sunday.

Bill wants to meet at the Moody Depot on Friday at 10 AM to load up. The club purchased a TV cart from Sam’s Club. Please let Mike Cleveland know if you will require a PC and projector for any clinics/presentations. Newspaper coverage has been increasing. Coffee and donuts are on order and a cake has been ordered for Saturday night’s Open House. We need a volunteer for Sunday from 9:30 AM till the show opening. Dieter Hiersig volunteered.

Wiley Stearnes made a motion to move the January 2006 business meeting to the second Saturday (January 14th). Bruce Koehler seconded, and the motion passed. Run Day will be on January 21st.

Volunteers are still needed to run trains on the weekend after the Tempel Model Train Show in support of the Texas Train Show (September 24th from 10-4 PM). Sunday times are tentative.

Christmas Party – Dan Ladd reserved the Santa Fe Depot for Friday, December 5th. We will have same caterer as last year and the dinner sill start at approximately 7 PM. Joe Teakell made a motion to table further discussion on the Christmas Party until the next business meeting in order to explore other options. Richard Leonberger seconded and the motion passed.

New Business

Richard Leonberger suggested and solicited club comment on offering a club car for our 25th Aniversary show in 2007. Bob Alston suggested club decals as an alternative. T-Shirts were also suggested.

Train Show Prep in Full Swing

The meeting was called to order on August 6th at 1:15 by Betty Neill.

The minutes for July were presented. Bruce Koehler made a motion to accept seconded by Mike Cleveland. The motion passed and the minutes were accepted as read.

Betty submitted the Treasurer’s Report. 173 tables have been sold for the Train Show so far.

Old Business

Bill Lancaster and Ed Neill spoke with Belton Lions Club on July 27th about the Club.

Train Show – Betty passed out the tentative work schedule for the show. Please review and give Betty any changes that need to be made as soon as possible.

Mike Cleveland spoke about clinics for the show. He needs volunteers to sign up for a host of topics. Bob Alston and Bruce Baker will present “Planning a Layout”. Mike will post schedules throughout the Convention Center. Mike will also make a laptop available for PowerPoint presentations.

Train Show PR – Jerry Johnson will have the show advertised in Model Railroader magazine. Ed will contact the Temple Telegram newspaper.

Bill Lancaster says there is space for the club to set up at the Temple Mall the first weekend of September on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Betty made a motion that we set up at the mall. Bill seconded and the motion passed.

Ed recommended that each club member sell $30 worth of Train Show tickets. Mike Cleveland made a motion to that effect, Wiley Starnes seconded, and the motion passed.

Dan recommended that we again have the Christmas party at the Depot, and wants to reserve the Depot, either on December 9th (first choice) or December 2nd (alternate).  Betty made motion to not commit until the membership has had time to consider. Ed Underwood seconded and the motion passed.

New Business

Betty introduced a new member, Bob Cozby. Bob Alston will serve as mentor.

A cart for the TV was discussed and it was decided to be too expensive at this time. Members were asked to look for a good used cart.

Extraco Bank to Sponsor Raffle Layout

The meeting called to order on July 2nd at 1 PM by Club Vice President Earl Blanchette.

The minutes for June were introduced. Joe Pyland mad a motion to accept the minutes as read. Mike Cleveland seconded, and the motion passed.

The Treasurer’s report was submitted by Betty Neill. Thus far, the club has sold 133 tables. The insurance premium for the following year has been paid. The report was accepted.

New Business

One of our life members, Ernie Hansbearry, has moved to Bellevue, Washington, and another, Annie Adams, has moved to San Antonio.

Dieter Hierzig would like to move the TV equipment out of the library to accommodate users. This was tabled for discussion at the next business meeting.

Mike Cleveland will postpone clinics until after the Train Show. Be sure to sign up for any clinics you care to conduct, both for the Show and Run Days.

Ed Neill reported that the 1st National Bank (Extraco) will once again sponsor the club’s raffle layout. Thanks to them!

Clinics to Be Offered Following Business Meetings

The meeting called to order on June 4th at 1:10 PM by Club President Ron Miller.

The minutes for May were introduced. A motion was made by Bill Lancaster, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was submitted. We have sold 128 tables for the Train Show thus far. The report was accepted as presented.

Old Business

A Lionel speeder for the kiddie’s layout was purchased by Wiley Starnes. The speeder was on display during the meeting, and making its way around the layout.

New Business

Ed explained our insurance coverage as it pertains to personal property. Inventories of equipment, yours or clubs, should be taken as soon as possible, just in case.

Bill Lancaster installed a cabinet for ladies purses in the kitchen.

The raffle layout needs to be completed now that nearly all items are on-hand.

Betty suggested adding clinics to the work day/business meeting day so layouts can be run without interruption on run day. Clinics could be started 15 minutes following business meeting. Ed Neill made a motion to that effect, to which Bill Lancaster seconded. There being no further discussion, the motion passed.

Bill Lancaster solicited assistance in areas of responsibility for the coming show.
